Save A Jewish Family From Eviction

A mother and her children are less than 24 hours away from losing their family home. They will be left on the street with no where to go if these funds cannot be raised today.

Dear fellow brothers and sisters,

A mother and her children are less than 24 hours away from losing their family home. They will be left on the street with no where to go if these funds cannot be raised.

Over the past year and a half, they have gone through tremendous financial struggles and shifts in their familial structure and while their Landlord has been extremely patient and understanding, he can no longer afford to extend the kindness he has shown them for past year as they were going through this hardship. The court eviction is underway and they need to come up with monies by mid June in order to keep a roof over their heads. The children's elementary schools kindly granted them leniency as well, but they cannot be signed up for the next year until past tuition is paid.

The mother is trying desperately to keep their family functional as she works very hard to ensure a future for her and her children. (The father is unable to help financially yet.) Your money will help to pay up the back rent and allow for them to start over and be functioning again.

There are no options in sight that will allow this family to all board at the same place if this doesn't work out, so let's see what we can do.

Every dollar counts and is a tremendous help in putting this family back on their feet.

There are a couple of well known figures in the community that are in support of this campaign and they urge you to give whatever you can. Please remember that sharing the campaign is giving as well.

Eviction doesn't happen overnight
Judging from what the article says, it seems this is a last resort for the landlord. But the process takes time, so why wait until now to appeal to us? And you don't even have the site working. I certainly believe this situation is genuine but it is puzzling why nothing is working or organized properly.

Just tried to donate -- unsuccessful on PayPal!
I tried to log in to my PayPal account, and it said:
"We can't process your payment right now, so please try again later. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

I hope this is legit. and is not a scam to collect login info from PayPal! There IS a green secure lock thing on the url for the site.

To #14 or any others with questions about how this is being handled.
Please read the article (and between the lines) or rely on those involved (follow the link for names and phone numbers). Please allow the children and parent(s) some dignity in a very tough and humbling situation.

To #14 and some commenters and the anonymous op-Ed writers
We have a problem in our community.

People don't have the ability to discern which situations are best to be dealt with "out in the open" (via op-eds, online comments, etc.) and which are best handled in private (a phone call, meeting with the person you're trying to affect, or with an associate of theirs, their mashpia etc.).

The Rebbe spoke at a farbrengen (published by JEM a few years ago) about the demonstrations in USA against some Russian government policy (I don't recall the specific issue) and the Rebbe said that some issues are best handled "behind closed doors" and a public demonstration will only HURT the cause you are demonstrating for.

Crowdfunding from the public needs to be done in public. But if you have issues with a campaign, pickup the phone (or write a PRIVATE email) to the organizers or backers of that campaign and don't involve anyone else. It only causes damage on all fronts. The viewing public. The donating public. The organizers. The family. Etc etc.

A little tact would go a long way.

We can start by banning pashkevilin. These are usually the culprit in most tactless and destructive issues that arise.

We would have much better results - that are win/win for all parties in most cases. (E.g. Bnos Menachem, Moe at Izzy's, etc. etc. etc.)

unless you knoe for certain that this family is living in a big apartment house where the owners are able to absorb the loss of a non-paying tenant, you shouldn't be so quick to blame the family's landlord. for all you know the landlord too may be struggling to pay their mortgage and are unable to do so if they do not receive the rent they were counting on. that would put 2 families out on the street, a situation that wouldn't be helpful to anyone...
